Don't be decieved, this Rider is tough even without his Beast! Feb 06, 2010
By J. Reno Another fantastic addition to NECA's series of Gears of War figures is the Locust Grenadier Beast Rider! Whereas series four had the Grenadier Elite and Flamethrower (both amazing figures as well) series five has given us the tough and versatile Beast Rider! While many people may pass on yet another version of the Locust Grenadier, I would highly recommend stopping and checking this figure out.
It uses the same basic mold as the two aforementioned figures from wave 4, with the exception of his head. This particular Locust wears the famous Beast-Rider helmet with the single glowing "eye" on the front of the faceplate which NECA has done an awesome job of recreating in plastic. In my opinion, the Beast Rider helmet is second only to the Locust Cyclops ver.2 helmet in terms of coolness. Again, this is a beefy figure, utilizing the solid mold of his predecessors he weighs in at a hefty amount. This is to say that it will give you a sense of good quality and rigid construction; it is a strong figure that's good for play or display.
Speaking of molds, the sculpting of this figure is nothing short of amazing. From the buckles and straps on his legs, to the the armor on his arms, and the ammo-pouches around his belt NECA has spared no expense in terms of detail. In fact the attention to detail will hit you immediately when you see the veins bulging out of his arms and his teeth gnashed together - ready to kill some poor Cog waiting 'round the corner.... The articulation is solid throughout this figure and very similar to NECA's latest line of GoW figures allowing for some exceptional posing possibilities.
The single accessory that accompanies the Beast Rider is his trusty Hammerburst 2.0! While NECA has done a spectacular job on the other weapons in the series such as the Lancer Assault Rifle and Boltok pistol (two of my favorites) nothing even compares to the Hammerbust 2.0. This is the definition of cool. It is sculpted to be game accurate and painted to look weathered and well-used. As much as I love the Boomshot, the Hammerbust 2.0 nudges it out as my favorite weapon thus far created by NECA. It should also be mentioned that NECA has started adding pegs and holes to each of their weapons and figures respectfully in order to come even closer to the in-game models of the Xbox360. So, yes, you can store your Beast Rider's weapon on his back if he happened to steal another weapon off of some unsuspecting victim.
All in all, this is another magnificent addition to any Gear-head's collection or just the right figure to start building your Locust shock-troop army. Like I mentioned earlier, this figure is probably passed on more than the others from this wave which is really too bad. I suggest that if you see one at a good price, you snap him up! You're not going to be disappointed. This figure is worth every penny.
Cool details but weak articulations Feb 11, 2011
By reivajtux The figure details are really nice, the sculpting is awesome. The armor, the head, the full body have a lot of details. But the articulation points doesn't allow too many posing possibilities: legs only have rotacional freedom degree and the armor constrains the arms motion.
The most weak articulation part is located between shoulders and the arms joint so... Be aware or you will break it (believe me! I already did... and had to glue it).
Anyway is a nice figure but very fragile.
Beast Rider, Nice But Eh... Dec 26, 2010
By LilDeadBoy Here we Are again, Received my Beast Rider in the mail in time for Christmas and was very pleased with what I got.
The figure itself is, like most of NECA's Gears of War line, are insanely and incredibly detailed even going toe to toe with McFarlane toys.
BUT, it really lacks in durability. Not a minute of the package and the gun holding arm came out. Yeah, NECA's toys have tendency to do so. But I am glad that it wasn't unfixable, for now I just popped the arm back in and it's like nothing happened, I will however krazy glue the arms back in, for what broke was the joint that held the arm together, it's an easy fix.
The Hammerburst 2.0 is amazing. One of my favorite weapons from this line. Very good.
Overall, if it weren't for NECA's lack of stable figures, It'd be perfect but along with the strange placement of joints, the fact that Beast Rider is tiled for no apparent reason and the arm breaking. It suffers a lot.
LDB rates this Rider a 3 out of 5.
